8 Sovereign Spirit
If you are looking for a lively outsider to factor into your play, you could do a lot worse than side with Sovereign Spirit. Firstly, he is ideally course and distance suited having won the Campanajo 2200 on July day last year and, secondly, ran well above expectations when finishing 3rd in the Cape Town Met over 2000m in January. He now meets Rainbow Bridge on 6kgs better terms and is 4kgs better off with Belgarion – that certainly brings him into the reckoning with a bright chance. His prep has been ideal and he will line up on 3 July in very good shape. Trainer Candice Bass Robinson won the July with Marinaresco in 2017 and she will be more than hopeful that Sovereign Spirit could carry the stable flag to victory this year.
