3 Shah Akbar

Trainer Sean Tarry is no stranger when it comes to saddling Vodacom Durban July winners. He won the race in 2012 with Pomodoro and a year later with Heavy Metal but he does not appear to hold a very strong hand for the 2021 renewal of Africa’s greatest horse racing event. The 3yo Shah Akbar is clearly well above average but rates someway behind his contemporaries Linebacker, Rascallion and Kommetdieding and faces a tough task of matching strides with them at level weights. Shah Akbar is well drawn and likes to race handy but he will be tested to the limit over the final 300 metres of the race. However, a top five finish is not beyond the realms of possibility.
