Fashion Overview

Complimentary to the Vodacom Durban July each year is an important fashion component, the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Experience presented by Durban Fashion Fair. This plays out during the months before Raceday, on server digital platforms and in print and for the second year in a row, as a ‘virtual experience’ for DStv viewers on the big raceday itself.

The Vodacom Durban July Fashion Experience has always been the epitome of style, elegance and fashion trend and the event’s fashion programme underscores that ethos.

Soon after the annual event theme is announced, students at design colleges across KwaZulu-Natal start work on their submissions for the prestigious Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award, a competition that has helped kick-start the careers of many successful South African designers.

The programme is closely tied to the Durban Fashion Fair, from showcasing new and established talent to judging and mentoring.

Every year the fashion programme includes a non-competitive showcase platform that profiles some of the luminary South African designers’ interpretations of the year’s theme.

As the Vodacom Durban July will be held behind-closed-doors in 2021, there will be no Raceday Fashion competitions.
